Nestled adjacent to a quiet inlet in New Zealand’s beautiful Coromandel region, Purangi Garden may be the coolest place I’ve ever stayed. We were fortunate to have reserved the Lavender Chalet, a cozy cabin set in a Kiwi-esque Garden of Eden — complete with free-flying white doves.

Purangi Gardens Accommodations

Getting to this somewhat hidden paradise is no easy task: it stands at the end of a long unpaved road. The bumpy drive takes you past scenic pastures, through fern tree groves and fruit orchards. But it’s worth the wait.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted by the inn’s owners, Sue and Rob, who have masterfully cultivated the spectacular greenery of Purangi Garden through the years. And here at this coastal paradise, you’ll be glad to know nature’s bounty is not forbidden. You’ll not only find your room stocked with a bowl of fresh fruit, but you’ll have access to a full array of vegetables and greens from the inn’s gardens.

To top it off, guests can make use of the Purangi Garden kayaks at any time. One of the highlights of our stay was a quiet cruise around the inlet, with its spectacular blue-green waters and semi-tropical shoreline.

Two nights at Purangi Garden simply wasn’t enough. And the price wasn’t bad either. At roughly $140 (US) a night, it fits the bill as a SavvySojourns find. For an unforgettable stay in a truly unforgettable corner of the world, look no further than Purangi Garden. Check out our additional photos below:
